The Florida Legislature gave their approval for the "Firefighter Specialty Tag" back in the 2004 legislative session. The statewide license plate was designed so that citizens could show their support of the fire-rescue profession year round. The first time you order the specialty plate, the approximate cost is $20 (plus an additional $2 to the state) over your regular renewal fee (please consult your local tax collector's office to find the exact price). The $20 portion of the specialty license plate fee may be a tax deductible donation to the Florida Firefighter Charities, 501(c)(3) organization (please discuss with your tax advisor).
The fees generated from the license plate sales will go through the Florida Firefighter Charities and be distributed directly back to local, eligible charities chosen by Firefighter's in the counties where the plate was sold (Broward County residents who purchase plates will have monies directed to the Greater Broward Firefighter Charities). The Greater Broward Firefighter Charities each year contributes to a number of eligible organizations such as MDA, the Fallen Firefighter Memorial, Collegiate Scholarships, Burn Centers, Childrens advocate and health organizations, etc.
